Doing The Golf Thing

Let me start off by telling you a little about me and my life. First things first... My name is Nick and I am originally from Wisconsin. Please refrain from all cheese head jokes! I am twenty-four years old and now I live in New York. The last 10 years of my life have been flooded with golf. I have been lucky enough to play great courses with great people all over the country. And I am really looking forward to sharing some of my thoughts, ideas, and stories with everyone.

I suppose I got a normal start to the game. I played a few times a summer with my old man and liked it. But never thought I would ever take it seriously. As a kid, I wanted to be a baseball, basketball, football player. But I got hooked, just like everyone else... I would bike to Reid Municipal with my 8-iron and putter strapped to the handle bars and spend the entire day chipping and putting. I fell in love with the independence of it all. Being 13 years-old, hanging out at the golf course all day, all summer, doing my own thing was very liberating. Golf reeled me in quickly and I loved to practice. After a few weeks of chipping and putting, I went out and carded a 41. Never have broken 50 before, it was a big step and led me to my first tournament. I shot 89 the first round with two tens (that I will never forget) on the card! It was my second time ever playing eighteen holes and first time breaking 100. My love for the game has only grown since.

I played all the way through high school with some success. I qualified for the State Amateur and played well in a few other events. I played as much as could and gained some great golf and life experiences.

After high school, I moved to Vista, California to attend the San Diego Golf Academy. And since then I have been floating around the country doing the "golf thing." I started in New York as an USGA intern for a very elite regional golf association where I spent my summer running golf tournaments at some of the best golf clubs in the country. Upon completing my first season working in the golf business, I spent one uneventful season in Florida only to find myself heading back in New York. Now I spend my time caddying at an U.S. Open club and am an assistant at another nice smaller less famous country club in the afternoons. As you can see, I am most certainly doing the "golf thing."

I am very excited to talk golf with you all and hope you enjoy reading. There will be much more to come. Until then, Hit it hard and take it deep!

All the best
